On November 14, 2024, the PTA was invited to attend a Ministry of Finance presentation in Kitchener. The purpose of their meeting was to receive feedback from attendees on ways to reduce cost and put more money back in the pockets of Ontario taxpayers.
It was an eye-opening experience. None of the attendees, other than the Ontario Property Taxpayers Alliance, actually offered ways to put more money back in the pockets of taxpayers. They all just asked for more money and spending.
We each had 3 minutes to address the Ontario Minister of Finance, the Hon. Peter Bethlenfalvy, starting with Regional Chair Karen Redman and the City/Township mayors (who all presented first and then promptly left hearing none of the concerns expressed by others), followed by the rest of us.
The Property Taxpayers Alliance addressed the unsustainable rise in property taxation. We expressed concern about affordability for lower income households.
We summarized our recommendations and sent them in a letter to the Ontario Finance Minister cc the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing. Please click here to read the letter.
