Ontarians are facing massive property tax increases for 2025. This is not a one time event. It has been going on for years and is simply not sustainable. Our incomes are not keeping up.
In Wilmot Township, homeowners are facing a whopping 50% increase in property taxes. In Tiny Township, they were told the increase would be 8.44% but have since managed to beat that down to 7%. This is still 3.5 times the current 2% inflation rate. Are you kidding? Did you get a 7% raise in 2025?
Region of Waterloo tax increases for 2017 – 2025 are shown below versus inflation. Taxes have risen 7 out of 9 years at multiples of inflation. And there’s a 9.48% increase in 2025! That’s 5 times the current 2% inflation rate. When will you say “Enough is Enough“? Sign up for our newsletter and make a difference.

Similar charts could be created for municipalities, townships, and regions all across Ontario. Homeowners and renters (rising property taxes drive up rental costs and contribute to homelessness) are seeing disposable incomes shrink as taxes eat up a growing percentage of their take-home pay.
The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing needs to demand that Ontario municipalities and townships put plans in place to get their per-household annual cost increases back down in line with the growth in our incomes, using inflation as a proxy for income.
